After more than a decade of flying in remote areas, landing on unimproved airstrips, ridges, and beaches, Joel Natwick recognized a need to strengthen the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer of the types of aircraft he was flying so that the surfaces could withstand the impact damage from rocks and debri that the landing gear dislodge from the ground on touchdown.
